Off to Tubac

Today is the day I am off to Tubac, I'm excited about the day and I hope I do well at the show. Wish me luck... well me and Mike luck...

When I was little...................... I wanted to be an Artist.

When I was eight years old I sold my first piece of art, it was just before Thanksgiving. I had colored a lady and man pilgrim I took it to the mom and pops dohnut shop just down the street from where I grew up, I asked the baker man if he would like to buy my pictures, he took my pictures and paid me with my favorite PB&J dohnut. Then he hung my pictures in his window.

Artist's Statement

Kathys Art: Sahuarita, AZ, United States; Born and raised in central Washington, I started out in a crafty family, I am third generation artsy girl! My mother and Grandmother were both a big influence in my art. I helped my mother make cloth dolls as a young adult. I restored antique dolls, and designed my own. As I grew older my interest range widened. I floated in and out of passions. I went on to discover watercolors and acrylic paints, When I combined techniques with home made paper clay the results were surprising and fun. My work is a constant search for the best way to interpret the ideas I have about myself and the world I live in. I am a sculptor , a painter, a furniture restorer, an artist. I've been working with both paint and paper clay since the mid 90's. I know art doesn't have to be functional and can just be what it is, but making something that is functional, interesting, pleasing to the viewer and holds their gaze then I have succeeded in my work. I've been asked to make custom designs from time to time. A young woman had a pet Tabby cat, she got him when she was a small child, he lived a long life and passed, she wanted something special to remember him something unique, a figurine, so I made one for her. When I make something I put a lot of thought into it, it makes me happy knowing they are enjoying something I created. I like creating, it's relaxing like a form of meditation. . . . . I call it my "me time".
